Founding Parliament Prez: Regime In More Precarious Position Today than 2008
At today’s conference of political forces opposing proposed constitutional changes in Armenia, Founding Parliament President Garegin Choukaszyan said that his organization welcomed such an initiative from the get-go.
Choukaszyan told attending a conference of the newly formed movement called “Chek Antskatsni” (You won’t pass [the changes]), that the current governmental system represents an anti-constitutional party dictatorship that has nothing to say regarding this o that form of government.
Choukaszyan said that rather than focus on regime change, which had been unsuccessfully attempted in the past, the opposition must devise ways to mobilize the people.
He argued that the regime is in a much more precarious position today than in 2008 (when Serzh Sargsyan first was elected president), and has been forced to initiate constitutional changes to neutralize a rebellion by the people come the next presidential election.
