Injured Party Accepts Vardan Petrosyan's 2 Million AMD Offer to Cover Legal Fees

Vardan Petrosyan, the performance artist sentenced to five years’ imprisonment on manslaughter charges for his involvement in an October 2013 deadly road accident in which two sixteen-year-old boys were killed, has agreed to pay 2 million AMD ($4,000) to one of the injured parties to cover their legal fees.

Tatevik Hakobyan, one of the injured passengers in the car struck by Petrosyan, has accepted the settlement despite initially demanding 3.4 million AMD in recompense.

Hakobyan family attorney Rouben Baloyan told Hetq that the amount is just one part of a total reconciliation package, but that he advised the family to accept it.

“I spoke to the injured party and it’s an acceptable amount. Honestly, I and the injured party have grown tired of all of this. As to whether the sides will reconcile later on or not is not within our purview,” Baloyan said.

Nikolai Baghdasaryan, who represents Petrosyan, said that there are concerns that the entire judicial process might drag on for years and that his client preferred to pay the 2 million AMD rather than argue the matter in the courts for years to come.
