Artsakh War Vet: Diaspora Must Direct Fundraising Towards Purchasing Arms

Artsakh War veteran Margarita Karamyan, in a public appeal, has called on the Armenian diaspora to direct all fundraising efforts to purchase arms and ammunition for Artsakh.

Karamyan says that due to its treaties with Russia, Armenia is not permitted to imports weapons from other countries and that the diaspora needs to fill the gap in this respect.

“Thus, those huge amounts, which I am certain will be collected, must not go to waste,” Karamyan writes.

Karamyan says in her appeal that the past two weeks proved that Armenians are an honorable nation that is ready to join as one fist and defend the nation’s pride despite having been tarnished somewhat in the past few years.

While expressing thanks for all fundraising and humanitarian assistance that has taken place for Artsakh, Karamyan says that the bitter lessons of the 1990s Artsakh War must not be repeated.

“I call on all our compatriots living overseas to accept my advice so that we, a few years later, aren’t surprised as to why all these efforts haven’t given results,” writes Karamyan.

The war vet argues that the patriotism of the past had a deleterious rather than positive outcome in that it spawned consecutive criminal regimes.

“I am convinced that out compatriots will correctly understand the real way of working and that we will demonstrate the true united diaspora-Armenia connection.
