Law Enforcement Rules Out Terrorism in Yerevan Bus Explosion

Armenian law enforcement officials reported today that they have so far found no evidence suggesting that terrorism was the cause of a bus explosion in Yerevan last night that killed two and injured seven.

At the time of the explosion on Halabyan Street, there were ten in Bus 63 – the driver and nine passengers, all Armenian citizens.

Investigators at the scene have found a cell telephone Sim card that has been traced its owner, an Armenian citizen, that has a court record. Armenia’s Investigative Committee (IC) hasn’t specified what the person in question had been charged with in the past.

A search of the person’s house, according to the IC, revealed explosive material, detonators, and various electronic equipment.

Traces of the same explosive are said to have been found in the remains of the bus and in physical evidence removed from the scene.

The residences of all ten people in the bus have been searched but nothing has been found suggesting they had anything to do with the explosion.

Law enforcement are attempting to reveal whether an unidentifiable corpse found at the scene of the bus explosion is the owner of the Sim card.

Recordings taken by video cameras installed along the route taken by Bus 63 are also being examined.

The company operating bus route 63 had been declared insolvent by an Armenian court.
