Armenian Foreign Minister Meets Iranian President in Tehran; Visa Liberalization Memo Signed

Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian flew to Tehran on an official visit and was received by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

Rouhani told Nalbandian with the lifting of international sanctions against Iran, a great opportunity had been created to further develop economic and commercial ties between the two countries and that practical steps in this direction need to be taken.

Nalbandian, in turn, said that Armenia was ready to forge and implement even more ambitious projects with Iran that would not only benefit the two countries but also the region.

The Armenian foreign minister also brief Rouhani regarding steps to implement the cessation of hostilities agreement along the NKR-Azerbaijani Line of Contact. Rouhani, in turn, reiterated that Iran has always supported a peaceful resolution of the conflict based on international rights’ principles.

Rouhani stated that he is planning to visit Armenia in the near future.

While in Tehran, Nalbandian also met with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif. 

The two ministers signed a visa liberalization memo that would allow citizens of Iran and Armenia to enter, transit, stay and leave the territory of the other contracting party for a maximum period of 90 days within 180 days without a visa.
