Jermuk Municipal Council Rejects Motion to Overturn Mining Ban
The Jermuk Municipal Council today voted down a motion, filed by the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development, to overturn a December 18 decision by the council to ban mining within the town and develop eco-tourism instead.
The six municipal council members who turned up for today’s special session all voted against the motion.
The ban has served to buoy the spirits of those opposed to the nearby Amulsar gold mine site.
Municipal Council member Hasmik Sargsyan told Hetq that the council received the ministry’s motion, arguing that the December 18 decision was filed improperly, yesterday.
