Haykakan Zhamanak Reporter Freed on Own Recognizance
Jailed Haykakan Zhamanak reporter Hayk Gevorgyan has been freed after spending 72 hours in detention after being arrested on February 3.
He still faces various traffic violation charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, and has been instructed not to leave the country.
The newspaper claims that the traffic violation charges levied against the reporter are trumped up and that Gevorgyan’s arrest was a result of a directive handed down by RA Police Chief Vova Gasparyan.
The newspaper argues that Gasparyan was irritated after Gevorgyan posed some sharp questions to the top cop at a recent press conference.
