Government Issues Customs Tax Break to Company Owned by Daughter of Former MP Samvel Aleksanyan

The Armenian government today granted an AMD 1.177 billion (US$2.449 million) import customs tax waiver to Alex Textiles, a company owned by former MP Samvel Aleksanyan’s daughter Astghik Aleksayan (photo).

The waiver will cover the company’s imports of raw material from China, Uzbekistan and Turkey.

The company, which claims to have 1,104 employees, says it will add 400 new jobs due to its ongoing investment program that will invest AMD14 billion to purchase raw materials and AMD 1.5 billion in equipment.

Alex Textile received a similar import customs tax waiver last June on AMD 706 million (US$1.475 million) worth of equipment to be shipped from Turkey and Uzbekistan.
