Armenian Government Nixes Age Discrimination Labor Code Clause Bill
The Armenian government today rejected a bill sponsored by National Assembly Deputy Tigran Urikhanyan that would amend the country’s Labor Code to read that an individual’s age should not prevent employment unless in cases otherwise specified by the law.
The ministry, in its response, argued that if a separate clause regarding age discrimination were to be approved, then clauses prohibiting discrimination based on gender, religion, ethnic and social origin, language, world view and other factors would have to be added to the code.
The ministry also underlined that labor rights and obligations (working eligibility) are equally recognized for all citizens of Armenia.
