Armenian President Armen Sarkissian visited the Yerevan house of WWII veteran Mikit Amiryan and thanked him for his sacrifice in the defense of the homeland and to wish him a happy birthday as well.

Mr. Amiryan turned 99 years old today, on Victory and Peace Day. Mr. Amiryan told Sarkissian about the war years and the places he served in – the Caucasus, Ukraine, Poland. 

Born in a village near the town of Ijevan, Mr. Amiryan participated in the battles to liberate Prague and Berlin from the Third Reich. After the war, Mr. Amiryan worked in for thirty years at a wine manufacturing plant.

President Sarkissian promised to return next year, to celebrate Mr. Amiryan’s 100th birthday.
