
Former Armenian Minister of Finance Gagik Khachatryan Arrested
Armenian National Security Service reports that on August 27, 2019, searches were conducted in the houses and apartments of Ex-Chairman of the Armenian State Revenue Committee, former Minister of Finance Gagik Khachatryan and a number of persons affiliated with him.
On the same day, after the searches were completed, Gagik Khachatryan and Karen Khachatryan (a former high-ranking official of the State Revenue Committee) were arrested on suspicion of large-sclae embezzlement and abuse of official power.
Earlier today, Armenian National Security Service (NSS) Head ArturVanetsyan claimed that the National Security Service had gathered sufficient evidence to carry out the above-mentioned investigative activities, noting that Khachatryan had been summoned to the NSS Investigation Department several times and questioned as a witness.
A criminal case of Khachatryan is also being investigated at the Special Investigative Service (SIS. Vanetsyan noted that the NSS case has nothing to do with the criminal case being investigated by the SIS, but said that the two cases might be unified.
