Yerevan Municipality Pays Sanitek 160 Million Drams; Tells Trash Collector, "That's It"

In a statement released today, the Yerevan Municipality says it has transferred 160 million AMD ($337,000) to Sanitek for services rendered by the company in the second half of August.

“We urge Sanitek’s management to use these funds to pay the wages owed to its employees,” the municipality writes.

The municipality says that with this payment it no longer owes any money to Sanitek given that the company has effectively ceased to collect garbage and carry out other cleaning services in Yerevan as of August 29.

Over the past year, Sanitek and the Yerevan Municipality have accused each other of not living up to their contract.

Sanitek employees have staged noisy protests outside the Yerevan Municipality claiming that they haven’t been fully paid for their work.

They claimed the municipality hadn’t paid Sanitek on time.
