37 Million Drams to Armenian Police to Cover Cost of Regional Anti-Narcotics Operation
The Armenian government has allocated 37 million drams to the police to cover the costs of conducting the regional anti-narcotics operation Channel-Caucasus Redoubt that was headquartered at the Police Educational Complex in Yerevan from September 22 to 28.
The event is a sub-regional operation of the regional anti-drug operation "Channel" (Kanal), which is coordinated under the auspices of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
It is one of the major counter narcotics operations conducted in West Asia, Central Asia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
A portion of the money will cover the cost of an Armenian police delegation working visit to Iran.
The operation is carried out in the interests of ensuring collective security and increasing the level of practical interaction between the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and other countries on the suppression of channels for delivery of new psychoactive substances (NPS), drugs of the opium and cannabis groups.
This event involved over 19 thousand employees of competent authorities, as a result of coordinated actions of which, according to preliminary data, about 17.4 tons of drugs were seized from illicit traffic, of which more than 10.4 tons were opium, more than 1.4 tons - hashish, more than 137 kg - heroin, more than 1,664 kg - marijuana, over 265 kg - drugs of synthetic origin.
637 drug crimes were revealed, as well as facts of drug trafficking legalization. For illegal drug transactions, 293 people were brought to administrative responsibility. 191 units of firearms and about 3.3 thousand rounds of ammunition were seized.
