Armenian President Tours Tropical Garden in Tavush

Armenian President Armen Sarkissian, during his working visit to Tavush Province, today visited a tropical garden created by 78-year-old farmer Mels Babayan in Aygedzor.

Babayan grows apples, plums, kiwi, banana trees and palms, among other fruits, in his unique garden.

“We met Mels Babayan, who, after spending part of his life overseas, returned and purchased a garden. There is creativity in this garden,” Sarkissian told reporters according to an Armenian government press release.

As to Babayan’s efforts to grow palm trees alongside apples, Sarkissian said "It makes sense, because trying the impossible can often produce strange results."
