Grigoryan's Lawyer Proposes AMD 1.7 Billion Worth of Real Estate as Collateral to Release Retired Army General from Detention

Retired Armenian Army General Manvel Grigoryan never made it to court today in Yerevan and his trial had to be postponed until December 24.

Grigoryan has been a resident of Yerevan’s Nairi Medical Center for the past six months.

Today, before the trial got underway, the hospital informed the court that Grigoryan’s condition had worsened and that he couldn’t be moved.

Grigoryan is charged with illegal weapons possession and the theft of 101.2 million drams worth of goods, tax evasion in the amount of 1.2 billion drams, and the embezzlement of 1.2 billion drams in state funds.

Diagnosed as diabetic, the hospital reported that Grigoryan refuses to eat hospital food. Instead, he receives food brought by friends and relatives.

Grigoryan defense lawyer Levon Baghdasaryan told the court that the defense is ready to put up 25 units of real estate, with a market value of 1.670 billion drams, as collateral to have their client released from detention.

Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan said he would rule on the detention issue at a later date.

On several occasions in the past, Grigoryan has appeared in court in a wheelchair and hooked up to an oxygen tank.

Grigoryan was arrested in June 2018.

ONLY $3.5M!?!? This criminal might have stolen MANY MILLION$$, AND, he's a major flight risk! Bail is a get-out-of-jail card! He deserves life in jail. Why the trial delays for over 18 months!?!
