In a telephone conversation today with his Iranian counterpart, Javid Zarif, Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, on behalf of the Armenian government, expressed his condolences to the Iranian government and people over the "death" of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani.

Soleimani was killed in a U.S. drone strike on January 3 in Baghdad.

The telephone conversation, according to an Armenian government press release, was initiated by the Iranian side.

The two foreign ministers are said to have discussed the situation in the Middle East as a result of recent human casualties in Baghdad.

Mnatsakanyan emphasized Armenia's readiness to continue close cooperation with all its partners in the area of regional stability and security.

If the Ministry used the word "death" add quotation marks. Otherwise consider replacing "death" and "killed" with the word assassination if you accept the logic of the Associated Press Stylebook.
