Former Armenian Defense Minister Testifies: Armenian Troops Adequately Equipped During April 2016 "Four Day War"

Testifying before an Armenian National Assembly ad-hoc committee investigating certain aspects of the April 2016 “Four Day War”, former Armenian Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan stated that, despite some tactical shortcomings in the lower ranks, Armenia forces were well equipped and trained and were able to effectively repel Azerbaijani invading military forces from Artsakh.

Ohanyan, after spending four hours today answering questions posed by committee members, told reporters waiting outside that the meeting was positive and cordial.

“As for the information relayed, of course, some information was supplemented, in various areas - military-political, operative-tactical, which will become the basis for the work of the commission. Most of the committee's work will be transferred to the Ministry of Defense, although I am convinced that the leadership of the Ministry of Defense has done its consistent work,” Ohanyan told reporters

Reminded of his former assertion that the Defense Ministry had reached its conclusions on the war and that there was no need for an investigative committee, Ohanyan said he hasn’t changed any of his findings.

“I reiterate that my conclusions and impressions have not changed. The army   fulfilled its task. Moreover, thanks to the commanders and servicemen of our army, we stopped all hostilities.”

The former defense minister stressed that Armenian forces were able to repel invading Azerbaijani forces due to decades of preparation and training.

Ohanyan denied rumors that Armenian forces in 2016 didn’t have adequate supplies of fuel.
