Proclaiming that Yerevan must become a green and environmentally friendly city once again, Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan has rejected a bid to allow a new tuff and basalt mine in the city.

Central estate LLC is the company that applied for a permit to operate the mine in Yerevan’s Ajapnyak district.

Marutyan, on his Facebook page today, writes that both public opinion and his own environmental department opposed the mine.
