Pashinyan and Sarkissian Discuss Constitutional Court "Crisis"

Armenian President Armen Sarkissian and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met in Yerevan today, the latest in a series of scheduled meetings, and stressed the need to focus more on the need for institutional reform in the country.

The two, according to an Armenian government press release, said they wanted to discuss issues related to the country’s constitutional court.

Pashinyan is quoted to have said the constitutional court matter should be approached in the context of the country’s institutional development and based on its national and state interests.

“We must approach the issue with the logic of having a precise and working system of balances and compromises, because only in this case we will have irreversible democracy, the supremacy of the rule of law, with its consequences, and, of course, the permanent constitutional reality that has always been the focus of our discussions,” Pashinyan said.
