Head of Armenia's State Control Service Refutes "Abuse of Power" Charges

David Sanasaryan, the head of Armenia’s State Control Service charged with abusing his power, today in court, proclaimed his innocence.

Armenia’s National Security Service, in April 2019, accused Sanasaryan, who has been temporarily relieved of his duties, of “not carrying out his official duties and abusing his power in order to promote the interest of his employee’s business.”

Hetq reported that the corruption scheme is related to a tender for blood dialysis equipment for a state hospital in the northern city of Vanadzor.

At today’s trial session Sanasaryan said that he doesn’t know of one case where a dialysis patient has suffered due to the actions of the State Control Service.

Defendants in the case include State Control Service former employees Gevorg Khachatryan and Samvel Adyan, and Zorashen LLC Director Taron Avetisyan.

It is alleged that Adyan, who oversaw purchasing for state enterprises, changed the terms of the tender in order to benefit a company connected to his brother.
