Armenian Parliament to Review Extradition Treaty with China
The Armenian National Assembly’s Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs today endorsed the ratification of an extradition treaty between Armenia and China.
According to Deputy Minister of Justice Christine Grigoryan, at the request of the contracting party, the other party is obliged to extradite any person from the requesting party appearing in its territory for the purpose of instituting criminal proceedings or imposing the assigned punishment.
"The extradition request may be granted if the act for which extradition is required is a crime under the laws of both countries and is punishable by imprisonment for at least one year," Grigoryan said.
The treaty also provides for the possibility of temporary detention of a wanted person prior to the request.
The treaty now goes to the parliament for ratification.
