Armenia’s Heritage Party today convened its 7th party congress.

Invited guests included representatives of the Free Democrats, Nayira Zohrabyan and Vardan Oskanian from the Prosperous Armenia Party and the ARF’s Vahan Hovhannisyan.

No one from the ruling Republican Party or the Rule of Law Party attended, despite the fact that invitations were sent to all, according to Heritage MP Anahit Bakhshyan.

Taking the podium, Vahan Hovhannisyan said the ARF had cooperated with Heritage in the parliament during the past five years and hoped that such actions would continue.

Hovhannisyan, referring to the upcoming elections, said that there would be no upheaval in Armenia if the opposition won.The ARF MP added that if the ruling coalition won the elections in such a manner, he’d be the first to congratulate them.

Khachatur Kokobelyan, who heads the Free Democrats, said that he foresaw a long road of cooperation between his party and Heritage.

Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian said that state officials should remain quiet and fulfil their mandate – serving the people.

“From the president down the line, MP’s, judges, prosecutors and civil servants, they should get busy performing their functions. Only afterwards can they get rich, become businessmen or the dean of a university. Let them use their knowledge in whatever manner they want. But they should never use their state positions for personal gain or for partisan party interests,” Hovannisian stated.
