Pashinyan and Visiting WHO Mission Head Discuss Fight Against Coronavirus

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan today, in Yerevan, met with a visiting World Health Organization (WHO) mission headed by Michel Tieren, Special Adviser to the WHO Regional Director for Europe.

The WHO mission is in Armenia to study and make recommendations on the country’s strategy in the fight against the coronavirus.

Pashinyan, according to a statement released by his office, praised the close cooperation between the government and the WHO, as well as its technical assistance in the fight against coronavirus.

Pashinyan also stressed the importance of close cooperation with international partners in this regard and noted that because of joint efforts it will be possible to overcome the coronavirus crisis.

Tieren noted that information about the global epidemic is not complete, because so far specialists and experts have reported dissimilar views on the fight against it.

Tieren said it is only possible to find the tools to fight the infection based on research conducted over time. In this context, Thierry stressed the need to wear a mask, maintain social distance and frequently wash hands, noting that mass gatherings and indoor events should be avoided.

According to the head of the WTO mission, no choice should be made between subjecting the economy to lockdown and opening it. Experience has shown that one must learn to live in the conditions created by following the safety guidelines.
