Government, Not Private Investors, to Pay for New Yerevan Metro Station

A new Yerevan metro station, in the city’s Ajapnyak district, will be funded by the government, not private investors, according to Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan.

At a press conference today, Marutyan said the government had weighed the pros and cons and decided to fund the project, despite the financial risks, so that it could be built on schedule.

The Yerevan Municipality will design the station, after which a work tender will be announced.

The Ajapnyak district lies on the other side of the Hrazdan River.

The single line Yerevan Metro was founded in 1981. Currently, there are twelve metro stations in Yerevan –all of them built during the Soviet era.

Marutyan did not mention the estimated cost of the new station.
