Armenian Prime Minister Says His Government Is Reviewing Recognition of Artsakh's Independence

At today’s special session of Armenia’s National Assembly today, Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan said the issue of recognizing Artsakh independence should be seriously discussed in light of today’s fighting along the Artsakh-Azerbaijan border.

Bright Armenia faction head Edmon Marukyan raised the issue, contending that the argument that such recognition while negotiations are underway would lead to hostilities is moot.

Pashinyan responded that the issue is on the government’s agenda and that public debate on the matter should follow.

Independent MP Arman Babajanyan asked whether the government had met with ambassadors accredited to Armenia.

Pashinyan responded that Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, who was not present at the session, was in contact with the ambassadors and Armenia’s international partners and had provided information on the fighting.
