Armenia’s National Assembly Condemns Azerbaijan's Military Aggression

At a special session today, Armenia’s National Assembly condemned Azerbaijan's military aggression and issued the following statement.

The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia strongly condemns the aggression unleashed by the Republic of Azerbaijan against the Artsakh Republic on the morning of September 27, 2020, a large-scale armed attack, which grossly violated the principle of resolving international disputes exclusively by peaceful means.

These criminal actions of the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan, including the targeting of peaceful settlements with large-caliber weapons, non-selective attacks on civilian targets, their previous aggression in Tavush in July 2020, constant belligerent and anti-Armenian rhetoric aimed at depopulating the Republic of Artsakh of Armenians.

They prove that the Azerbaijani government is a real threat to the existence of the Armenians of Artsakh, to the security of Artsakh, the Republics of Armenia, the whole Armenian people, as well as the whole region. Therefore, all the self-defense actions of the Armenian Armed Forces are aimed at neutralizing this danger.

Military action against the civilian population - the elderly, children, women - is prohibited not only by international law, but by all civilizations, all world religions, and denominations.

The international community must take active steps to curb not only the aggression of Azerbaijan, but also the continued aspirations of its ally Turkey to intervene in the Artsakh conflict, which will lead to extreme destabilization in the region, posing a direct threat to international peace and security.

This adventurism of Azerbaijan, carried out with the open support of Turkey, is a gross violation of international law, which must be assessed by the international community.

We demand to call things by their names. To clearly record the aggression carried out by authoritarian Azerbaijan against the democratic Artsakh Republic, to draw a line between humanity and a hatred of humanity.

The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia reaffirms that the Armenian side has always remained committed to the peaceful settlement of the conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, while guaranteeing the security of the Artsakh Republic.
