Armenian MP Says Cyprus, Austria, France and Greece Have Pushed for Sanctions on Turkey

My Step (Im Kayl) faction MP Victor Yengibaryan, a member of Armenia's delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, told Hetq today that the member states of the European Union convened a closed-door meeting of the Council of Europe at the leadership level to discuss foreign policy and security issues.

“According to circulating news, Cyprus, Austria, France and Greece have put a lot of pressure on other EU partners to impose sanctions on Turkey for violating international law," Yengibaryan said.

The MP attaches great importance to the role of NATO, emphasizing the importance of pressuring Turkey as much as possible.

French President Emanuel Macron has stated that France, as a member of the OSCE Minsk Group dealing with the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, intends to demand an explanation from Turkey for the transfer of Syrian militants to Azerbaijan through its territory and will demand the same from NATO.

Asked to what extent it is possible that NATO will suspend Turkey's membership in this situation, Yengibaryan replied that he does not consider it realistic since Turkey allocates much more money to the NATO budget than other member states.

However, the MP considers the statements condemning various international organizations as a diplomatic victory.

"The world has called for the elimination of mercenary terrorists, and has accepted the existence of them," Yengibaryan told Hetq.
