Five Greek Municipal Councils Adopt Resolutions Condemning Azerbaijani Aggression

The municipal councils of five Greek cities have adopted resolutions condemning the military action taken by Azerbaijan against Artsakh with the support of Turkey, reports the Armenian Embassy in Greece.

On October 5, the Thessaloniki Municipal Council passed the following resolution:

"The Thessaloniki Council stands in solidarity with the Armenian people, with whom we are connected by strong and long-standing historical ties, the martyrdom history of the Genocide of Greeks, Armenians and Assyrians by the Kemalist regime and the struggle we wage today for the international recognition of the Genocide.

"Unfortunately, once again, countries instigated and directed in the region by the Turkish government are creating a generalized escalation and tension, acts that are an insult to international law and the civilized world. The Municipality of Thessaloniki and the Municipal Council call on the Greek Government, the European Union and the International Community to take every initiative at the political and diplomatic level, in order to stop now the unacceptable military invasion of Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.”

The Nea Smyrni (New Smyrna) Municipal Council issued the following on October 7.

"The Mayor and the Municipal Council of Nea Smyrni express our concern for our Armenian brothers with whom we have long and strong ties.

We unequivocally condemn the attack of the Azeri and Turkish forces on the civilian population as well as the pan-Turkish bigotry, which the inhabitants of this city (Asia Minor, Pontians, Armenians) have experienced to the maximum. We hope that the hostilities will end quickly and that a common path of reconciliation and mutual respect for prosperity, development and peaceful coexistence in the wider region will be found.

We call on the international community to take all political and diplomatic initiatives to end now the unacceptable military invasion of Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

We believe in the right of peoples to live independently in their historic homelands, in law and in peace. And we will fight together to ensure a peaceful future away from bombings and the terror painted on children's eyes.”

The Municipality of Nea Smyrni is in constant contact with our brothers in Armenia, from whom we ask them to record their needs in order to assist as much as possible both in humanitarian material and in everything else that is requested of us ".
