Yerevan Protestors Demand U.S. Recognize Artsakh's Independence
About one hundred people gathered in front of the US Embassy in Yerevan today and demanded that the United States recognize Artsakh's independence.
Rally organizer Armine Melkonyan said it was high time that the U.S. halted its ostrich-like policy of “hiding its head in the sand” and ignoring an entire nation.
The demonstrators called on the U.S. to clearly state its position on the Karabakh issue.
Former Armenian MP Anahit Bakhshyan, who joined the protesters, stated that the United States, as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, can play a major role in resolving the conflict.
She noted that the sitting of the UN Security Council is expected today, where the position of the co-chairs is extremely important.
Bakhshyan said it was wrong for the United States and other co-chairing countries to equate the actions of the warring parties.
"We demand that United States recognizes the independence of Artsakh," said Bakhshyan adding that the recent statement of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on the situation in Artsakh was “insufficient”.
