Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: At Least 217 Syrian Mercenaries Killed So Far in Karabakh Fighting

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a UK-based human rights organization, reported yesterday that it has documented that at least 217 Turkish-backed Syrian mercenaries have been killed in the fighting in Karabakh.

“In the past few hours, Syrian Observatory activists documented the death of 29 Syrian fighters in Nagorno-Karabakh battles, nearly 15 of whom have been arrived in Syria. Accordingly, the total death toll among the Turkish-backed factions since the Turkish government sent them to the frontlines in late September has risen to at least 217 dead, including 163 fighters whose bodies were brought to Syria while the rest of bodies remained in Azerbaijan,” the SOHR writes.

The SOHR writes that its sources have reported the recent arrival of 300 more Syrian mercenaries in Azerbaijan.

The SOHR writes that Turkey is struggling to recruit more fighters to send to Karabakh due to the “sectarian” religious factor and because of the heavy losses they’ve already sustained.
