Lavrov Says No Turkish Peacekeepers in Nagorno Karabakh

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, at a press briefing today in Moscow, said that no Turkish peacekeepers would be dispatched to Nagorno Karabakh.

"No peacekeeping unit will be sent to Nagorno Karabakh from the Republic of Turkey. This was clearly stated in the trilateral statement,” Lavrov said.

Lavrov said the mobility of Turkish observers will be limited to the location of the Russian-Turkish monitoring center for supervising the ceasefire in Azerbaijan.

"The mobility of Turkish observers is limited by the geographical coordinates that will be defined for the Russian-Turkish joint ceasefire control center in Azerbaijan. This is the territory of Azerbaijan that is not close to Karabakh and will be agreed to later," Lavrov said.

He said there is no indication that anyone is trying to thwart the agreements on Nagorno Karabakh. Lavrov noted that Moscow is convinced that all parties are interested in the deployment of Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno Karabakh.

Lavrov said that the Armenian opposition is trying to manipulate the agreements on Nagorno Karabakh.

"We see the protests taking place in Yerevan now. We see how the opposition is trying to manipulate this situation. There are, of course, sincere people there, for whom it is probably a pity that everything ended like this at this stage."
