Yerevan: Anti-Pashinyan Protests Continue

Today, for the third day running, those demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan gathered in Yerevan’s Liberty Square.

Before the speeches started from the podium, Iveta Tonoyan, a member of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) parliamentary group, told reporters that BHK leader Gagik Tsarukyan had again been summoned to the offices of the Special Investigation Service. Khachik Galstyan, a member of the Homeland Party council reported that party chairman Arthur Vanetsyan was also invited to the Special Investigation Service headquarters.

Police on the scene called on the rally participants to disperse since public rallies are now prohibited.

Rallygoers held aloft photos of ruling My Step (Im Kayl) MPs, labelling them as traitors.

Seventeen political parties and organizations are demanding Pashinyan’s resignation for his signing of the November 9 ceasefire agreement.

Former Armenian Prime Minister Hrant Bagratyan, speaking from the podium, stated that there has never been a leader in the history of Armenia who handed over 25% of the country and that Nikol Pashinyan should be condemned.

Speaking about the process of deployment of peacekeepers in Artsakh, Bagratyan said that 90% of them have already been deployed, but that changes can be made to the documents.

"First, we must not have a fall out with the Russians. Believe me, experience has shown that what the Russians want is much worse for us. But at the same time, let us not deceive ourselves, because being a strategic ally, Russia is not going to go to war with Turkey and Azerbaijan," Bagratyan said.

He added that the issue of Kelbajar (Karvatchar) must be raised in any future negotiations, arguing that without it, the connection between Goris, Kapan and Artsakh is severed.

"We must remove Nikol from the people, remove him and judge him so that we can change some things," Bagratyan emphasized, calling on the people to endure for a few days.

Former Parliamentary Deputy Speaker Arpineh Hovhannisyan stated that Armenia and Artsakh need Nikol Pashinyan's removal.

She said that Nikol Pashinyan exemplified qualities and characteristics in the pre-war, war and post-war period that led to this catastrophe.

Hovhannisyan described the November 9 ceasefire document as a “ticking timebomb”, claiming that Pashinyan had been presented with more favorable ceasefire deals during the war but didn’t sign any. She offered no evidence of this.

ARF member Taron Tonoyan stated that Nikol Pashinyan's departure is a matter of time, and many points in the signed document can be changed in favor of Armenia and Artsakh.

"Believe and stand until the end! We do not want a simple, lying prime minister," Tonoyan told the crowd.

The anti-Pashinyan rally organizing committee has called for a candlelight vigil tomorrow evening to mourn those who died in the war.
