Putin Says Armenian Government Made a Very Difficult, but Correct, Decision

Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting today of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Collective Security Council, said that the Armenian government was faced with a very difficult decision about ending the war if Artsakh, but that it was needed.

"Those decisions were painful. They demanded great mettle from the prime minister," Putin said at the online meeting.

Referring to the November 9 trilateral truce, Putin noted that its points are being implemented consistently, Russian peacekeepers are deployed along the line of contact and the entire Lachin corridor.

Putin said that everyone knows that Russia's active mediation efforts were required to stop the bloodshed in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, to establish a complete ceasefire, and to start the stabilization process.

"At the same time, we are following the key agreements reached by the OSCE Minsk Group, in particular the co-chairing countries - Russia, the United States and France," said Putin.

Putin addressed issues related to assistance to people injured during hostilities, in particular the return of refugees, the restoration of damaged infrastructure, and the protection of historical, religious and cultural monuments. Putin called on the CSTO and CIS countries to provide humanitarian aid.
