Police detained Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan earlier today for questioning in a criminal case that has been transferred to the Investigative Committee for processing.

Neither the police nor the Investigative Committee would say what the case refers to.

Earlier, Arushanyan had announced that he and Goris residents would not let Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan, who’s visiting the area, from entering the city that lies close to Armenia’s new border with Azerbaijan.

The area has been in the news of late due to security concerns over how the border is being demarcated.

P.S.-The Investigative Committee later announced that Arushanyan was arrested for organizing an illegal rally in the Syunik town.
