Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan, arrested yesterday on suspicion of organizing an illegal rally in the southern Armenian town, has been released.

Yerevan’s Court of General Jurisdiction today declared that the decision to arrest Arushanyan was illegal.

On Monday, Arushanyan announced that he and Goris residents would not let Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan, who was visiting the Syunik Province, from entering the town that lies close to Armenia’s new border with Azerbaijan.

The area has been in the news of late due to security concerns over how the border is being demarcated.
