Shournoukh Mayor Calls on MPs to Petition Russia Over Border Issue

During a parliamentary discussion regarding the border situation in Syunik Province, Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) parliamentary faction secretary Arman Abovyan telephoned Shournoukh community Mayor Hakob Arshakyan, asking for the latest news.

Arshakyan said that sections of the border in his community, which straddles the Armenian border with Azerbaijan, are being delineated by GPS and that officials of the Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian security services are monitoring the process.

The other day, Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan said border issues exist in the Vorotan and Shournoukh villages, the outcomes of which might be painful for residents.

Mayor Arshakyan called on MPs to do their best so that the border demarcation does not result in village land being lost.

"I ask the parliament to be more vigilant. Do what you can with Russia. Keep our land in our hands,” Arshakyan said, adding that twelve houses are in the disputed section.

“I do not know exactly what will happen. We don’t have any clear information yet. It’s still being discussed,” said Arshakyan.
