Zohrabyan Dismissed as Parliamentary Committee Chair; Controversial Remarks Cited

By a vote of 78 to 4, Armenia’s parliament today dismissed Prosperous Armenia (BHK) MP Naira Zohrabyan from the post of Chairman of the Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs.

The motion to remove Zohrabyan from the post was introduced by the ruling My Step faction. The faction argued that Zohrabyan was not fit for the job given her recent political pronouncements regarding those who voted for Pashinyan as prime minister.

My Step MP Artur Hovhannisyan cited Zohrabyan’s December 17 Facebook post where she writes, addressing the people: “I hate you, filth. You who brought to power someone like yourself, someone who is slowly closing the page of our statehood."

Zohrabyan, and the BHK, have called for the resignation of Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan.

Yesterday, Zohrabyan called Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan a “traitor who is handing over parts of our homeland to his educated Turk friend Aliyev”.

BHK and Bright Armenia MPs were not present for either the discussion on the matter or the vote.
