Armenia Temporarily Bans Export of Non-Ferrous Scrap

The Armenia government today decided to ban the export of non-ferrous scrap and waste for six months to guarantee sufficient raw material for the thirty metallurgical companies now operating in Armenia.

The temporary ban will apply to scrap metal tiles, scrap metal waste used for cast-iron radiators, scrap metal pipes and their fittings, scrap metal structures and non-ferrous scrap.

Non-ferrous scrap and waste are strategically important raw materials for Armenia since there is no production of non-ferrous metals in Armenia.

Using imported metal would be cost prohibitive for the local companies.

In 2018, more than 12,000 tons of non-ferrous metals were exported.

Missing bits of information in this text. Scrap is recovered and sorted and remelted without refining ? So substandard alloys for making metal goods to sell on the market ?
