EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Peter Stano today urged political forces in Armenia to refrain from rhetoric or actions that could aggravate the domestic political situation.

 "The European Union is closely following developments in Armenia. We call on all players to calm down,” Stano said in a statement, adding that according to the constitution of Armenia, the armed forces must remain neutral in political matters and must remain under the control of the civilian authorities.

Earlier today, the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces issued a statement calling on Armenian PM Pashinyan to resign.

Stano said that maintaining democratic constitutional order is the only way for Armenia to eliminate the problems faced by the country.
