Azerbaijan Bans Search Operations in Occupied Territories, Says Artsakh Official

Hunan Tadevosyan, who heads the Public Affairs Department at the Artsakh Emergency Situations Service, confirmed that work to find the remains of Armenian servicemen and civilians in Artsakh territories now under Azerbaijani control have not taken place since February 15.

On February 20, Hetq wrote that no search operations were carried out in Artsakh due to unfavorable weather conditions.

Tadevosyan informed us Artsakh that search operations will resume on February 22 if the weather conditions are favorable, but the Azerbaijani side has banned search operations in areas beyond Artsakh's control without further comment.

"The work has been suspended for fifteen days. The Azerbaijanis do not comment, or mention why," said Tadevosyan.

He said that the Russian side tried to hold talks to resume the work but failed.

As a result of search operations carried out since November 13, 2020, 1,485 bodies were found and transferred to the Armenian side.
