$45 Million in Heroin Seized in Armenia
Armenian law enforcement personnel have seized more than 300 kilograms of heroin smuggled from neighboring Iran and destined for Europe, this according to a statement released by the State Revenue Committee (SRC).
Six individuals of “different nationalities” were arrested after SRC staffers found the drugs hidden in 33 boxes, stored in a Yerevan customs warehouse, marked as containing baker’s yeast.
“The market value of the heroin weighing, together with the packaging, about 365 kilograms is roughly US$45 million,” the statement said, adding that “Western Europe” was meant to be the consignment’s destination.
This is the second biggest stash of Class A drugs ever seized in Armenia.
