Major Garnik Khachatryan Posthumously Awarded Medal of Courage

Major Garnik Khachatryan has been posthumously awarded the Artsakh Republic Medal of Courage.

Khachatryan was killed on the night of October 1, 2010 during a firefight in Talish, along the northeastern Artsakh border.

Satenik Yeghiazaryan, his widow, told Hetq that the medal was handed to their eldest son Husik.

"He asked me, 'Mom, will you let me get the medal?' And he keeps saying, 'I want to be like my father,'" said Mrs. Yeghiazaryan.

Major Garnik Khachatryan, a career soldier, was attached to the military unit in Mataghis, Artsakh.

In addition to the posthumous award, one of the streets in his native village of Akunk, Gegharkunik region, was named after Garnik Khachatryan.
