Armenian Foreign Ministry Condemns Aliyev's Territorial Threats

Armenian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Anna Naghdalyan, in response to a question regarding Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s recent threats to use force against Armenia, said that Armenia “will undertake all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Aliyev, in a recent TV interview, said that Azerbaijan would use force to “regain control of Zangezour”, an historic region of southern Armenia he claims as Azerbaijani territory.

Naghdalyan condemned Aliyev’s remarks and said that such statements undermine regional peace and stability.

“It is noteworthy that such threats are made on the eve of the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide. They are intended to speak to the Armenian people from a position of force,” Naghdalyan said.

She said that Armenia is in constant touch with Russia, its strategic ally, and with all its partners interested in peace in the South Caucasus.
