Armenian Foreign Minister Awaits Positive Steps from Ankara, Not Just Words
Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazyan, during a press conference today in Yerevan with visiting Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, said that Armenia needs the help of the international community to ensure the return of its POWs still held by Azerbaijan.
“I hope that our international partners will respond to the humanitarian call, which will be a significant contribution to mitigating the effects of the 44-day war,” said Ayvazyan.
When asked what impact U.S. President Joe Biden’s recognition of the 1915 Armenian Genocide would have for Armenia, Ayvazyan spoke about physical security issues.
“Recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide is possible not only from the point of view of truth, historical justice, but also from the point of view of the physical security of the Armenian people,” Ayvazyan said.
Commenting on Turkish President Erdogan’s recent statement that Ankara is ready to establish relations with Armenia based on good neighborliness and mutual respect, Ayvazyan that Yerevan values deeds more than words in the matter.
