Coronavirus Cases to Rise in Armenia Due to Election Campaign, Says Health Minister

Acting Armenian Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan told reporters today in Yerevan that the number of coronavirus cases in the country is expected to rise because of the recent parliamentary election campaign.

"Comparisons with the previous seven and fourteen days already show a slight increase. Even after the election, we’ve noticed a significant increase in the rate of illness these past two days," Avanesyan said.

The acting minister said 70,000 people in Armenia will have received the first coronavirus vaccine dose by today.

Avanesyan said she will stay on as minister if offered the job by the new government.

(103 new coronavirus cases were registered in Armenia today and two individuals died from Covid-19 overnight. To date, 224,533 cases and 4,505 deaths have been registered.)
