80 Year-Old Roza: Let's Not Vote Like Sheep (video)
You can say that the village of Mayisyan, in Armavir Marz, is one of the more politicized villages in the region.
The upcoming parliamentary elections are the main topic of discussion.
80 year-old Roza Sargsyan is quite set in her opinions on the subject. Roza’s become so engrossed in the subject that even village Mayor Yesayi Movsisyan thinks twice before starting a debate with her.
Mrs. Sargsyan told Hetq that she would definitely be going to the polls on May 6 and casting her vote to improve the future of her children and grandkids.
“No one can force me to vote for a particular candidate. I have my own mind to follow. They can’t bribe me. It’s my right as a citizen and I’m beholden to no one,” said the feisty senior.
She urges fellow voters to take the elections seriously and not to be led like sheep by others.
“What have the politicians done for the past twenty years? We haven’t had normal elections since then,” she argued.
Roza doesn’t believe the promises of the government that the upcoming elections will be free and fair either.
She points to the fact that Armavir once had eight working factories that are now idle. The woman worked for twenty years in a local furniture factory.
“What can I say about those who have become so jaded that they sell out their country for a mere 5,000 AMD? We were educated under the Soviet system and respect the truth.”
The woman said it was time to think about the future of Armenia and the children now growing up.
“In the end, we have to wake up. We are living in the 21st century. How can people be so dumb? This isn’t 1915 anymore. Let’s set our sights on tomorrow and not the past.”
