South Caucasus Railway Launches Two New Electric Trains in Armenia

South Caucasus Railway (SCR) has launched two new Russian manufactured EP2D electric trains in Armenia.

The trains will ply the Yerevan-Gyumri and Yerevan-Yeraskh routes.

SCR is owned by Russian Railways, a Russian fully state-owned railway company that operates passenger and freight services.

Next year, the SCR plans to buy one new electric train and 50 new freight cars.

Representatives of the Armenian government, the Russian Embassy in Armenia, and the manufacturing company Transmashholding were on hand in Yerevan when the trains arrived.

As part of the event, the SCR organized an Open Doors Day for about 100 schoolchildren who toured the updated exhibition of Yerevan’s Railway Museum, as well as the new rolling stock of the company.

The SCR will organize a new electric train tour from Yerevan to Gyumri to introduce the advantages of railway travel to young people.

"I am sure that our passengers will appreciate the pleasant innovations and will choose the railway to travel in the republic," said SCR General Director Alexi Melnikov.
