Armenian Parliamentary Opposition Wants Standing Committee on Artsakh
The Armenian parliamentary opposition is pressing ahead with its demand that the legislature form a standing committee to focus on the Artsakh issue.
Artur Vanetsyan, who leads the I Have Honor faction, took the podium today and stressed that such a committee would send a clear message to Artsakh Armenians, to Baku, Ankara and the international community, that Yerevan remains committed to Artsakh despite last year’s military defeat.
"If the proposal to form a commission is rejected, we can reasonably suspect that the political majority is trying to wash its hands of Artsakh," Vanetsyan said.
Arthur Ghazinyan, a member of the Hayastan (Armenia) faction, claimed that the Artsakh government do not trust Pashinyan’s government.
"I think a standing committee on Artsakh should be set up and should be headed by the opposition. The commission should become a nationwide think tank for public-state policy on Artsakh," Ghazinyan said and urged Pashinyan to travel to Artsakh by car in a show of solidarity.
“The last time, according to my information, was eight or nine months ago. Let him go and declare that Artsakh is Armenia, end of story," Ghazinyan said.
Hayastan faction MP Gegham Manukyan said that no matter how much the authorities talk about Artsakh, they have abandoned Artsakh.
