Raffi Hovhannisian Pledges to Cut Government "Fat", Reverse Emmigration
Raffi Hovannisian told reporters today that the party was campaigning hard during the last 12 days before the elections and had observed a number of electoral infractions.
The Heritage Party leader said these included the emblems of political parties being on display in various government offices and the distribution of election bribes.
He noted that press coverage of the campaigns of the various political parties was greater than in past elections.
Hovannisian promised that if Heritage wins a majority of seats in the parliament it would see to it that all those 5 AMD bribes now being handed out would instead go to fill the state coffers.
As to press reports that, after the ruling Republican Party, Heritage has spent the most on its campaign, Hovannisian stated that the party, unlike the others, was playing by the rules and disclosing actual expenditure figures.
He said that Heritage would make sure that government “fat” in the form of security staffs, bodyguards, expensive SUV’s, and other luxuries now enjoyed by bureaucrats and state officials, would be cut and the savings ploughed back into the budget.
Hovannisian said that the current level of emigration was slowly destroying Armenia.
“If things continue like this, our flag will still wave at the United Nations but our government will be void of any quality.
Hovannisian noted that we lost 1.5 million during the 1915 Genocide but have conceded another 1 million during the past twenty years due to our own hands, not the enemy’s.
He noted that if Heritage comes to power and can’t solve the emigration issue, by at least reversing the trend, the party’s program would be considered a failure.
