
Armenia's Unemplyment Rate Rises to 17%; Highest in EEU
Armenia’s official unemployment rate rose to 17% in the first quarter of 2021, the highest amongst all Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) countries.
61,400 people registered for work throughout Armenia’s employment centers at the end of June.
Compared to the same period last year, the number rose by 1,200 (2%).
Most of the unemployed (64.7%) are women, followed by the 18-30 year-old age group (19.1%), and those with disabilities (3.9%).
The lowest EEU unemployment rate is in Belarus - 4.4% (second quarter of 2021), Kazakhstan - 4.9% (first quarter of 2021), Russia - 5.6% (first quarter of 2021), Kyrgyzstan - 5.8% (first quarter of 2021).
The Eurasian Economic Commission reports that at the end of June this year, the number of unemployed registered in the EEU amounted to 1.555 million, or 1.7% of the EEU’s total labor force.
